The Mother

The Mother

Genre: Supernatural Psychological Horror

Tone: The Conjuring meets Julia’s Eyes — a slow-burn descent into maternal terror where trauma, guilt, and folklore intertwine against a bleak Cumbrian backdrop.

Setting: Seascale, a remote coastal village in Cumbria

Producer: Vanessa Zachos

Synopsis:

Haunted by a childhood abduction she barely remembers, a Cumbrian detective investigates a series of refugee disappearances in her coastal village. As her sanity unravels, she discovers the crimes echo an ancient massacre of mothers and children—and that the vengeful spirit born from their grief is rising through her. Torn between justice and possession, she becomes the vessel of The Mother, an elemental force demanding retribution.

Themes & Mood:
The Mother is a supernatural horror rooted in maternal fear, ancestral pain, and the corruption of authority. It examines how grief festers when justice is denied, and how love, when twisted by trauma, can become something monstrous.

Dark, tactile, and deeply emotional, this is horror of the flesh and the spirit, where every crashing wave feels like a scream, and the sea itself remembers.
