What makes a hit show?

Of course, I believe my shows - and the shows I co-write with my partners - are the next hit. Because we are all so connected.

People think “connection” in writing is about clever structure or original plot twists. It’s not. It’s about human truth. It’s about the bit where you dare to put the thing you’re actually ashamed of on the page.

Everyone can write what they think is impressive. Hardly anyone is brave enough to write what is true.

When I write, I don’t go for clever.I go for the heart . The stuff that makes you catch your breath because it feels like you shouldn’t say it out loud.

That’s why I believe my stuff will hit. Because the audience knows a lie. They smell inauthentic at 50 paces.

Pretty is boring. Perfect is dead.

Raw? Raw is where people lean in.
